Middlebrook Geography Bee

Geography Bee

The Middlebrook LLC was buzzing this afternoon with the school final of the annual Geography Bee. Each of the nine competitors had already faced a grueling round of the competition and come out as the winner on their respective teams.

The stakes were high - two wrong questions and it would be game over. Cheered on by an audience of friends, parents and teachers, the contestants remained calm and focused as Dr. Priest asked questions that left many adults in the room scratching their heads for the answers.  After four rounds of questions, only two eighth-graders remained Lukas from 8Y and Vihan from 8G. The final round consisted of three questions to be answered by both students. Lukas could not be beaten, for a third year, he is Middlebrook Champion and will represent the school at the state competition at the end of March.

In preparation for the state final, Lukas will keep on studying and reading widely ‘There are books written to help you study for the bee, but the best thing to do is read as much as you can, including learning about current affairs’ said Lukas.  Last year Lukas finished 3rd in the State competition and he hopes his previous experience and his extra year of studying will improve his result this year.

Congratulations to all of the nine Middlebrook finalists, you all did an amazing job.

The National Geographic Bee is an annual competition, designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world. Students in grades four through eight, from 10,000 schools across the nation will compete in the 2019 National Geographic Bee.
