Wilton Zero Waste Schools Initiative        Wilton Go Green Logo

Wilton Public Schools has begun a journey to reduce the amount of waste produced in its schools.

Warriors won't waste

With help from Wilton Go Green we have developed individualized plans for each school to ultimately increase recycling, compost food scraps and donate any uneaten food from our students to those in need.

We are asking for your support and participation in encouraging our students, families and staff to change the way they look at waste.

Goals:

  • Minimize Recycling Contamination
  • Divert liquids, recyclables & food scraps from the waste stream
  • Create a more organized, cleaner cafeteria experience
  • Increase awareness among the Wilton Public School community about the importance of everyday waste reduction

Program Highlights:

  • NEW for 2024! Miller-Driscoll, Cider Mill and Wilton High School are using reusable stainless steel forks and spoons.  Cider Mill is also using reusable stainless steel lunch trays.  Cider Mill and WHS have both received a dishwasher to aid in the reusable program.
  • Carting pick ups altered to reflect our changing needs
  • Developed the Wilton Public Schools Zero Waste Program Guide which was approved and adopted by the Board of Education - Click to Read the Full Guide
  • Bi-Annual District-wide  Zero Waste Weeks to highlight the program and increase education around waste reduction to our students, staff and families.
  • Wilton Public Schools Case Study video created by Center for EcoTechnology
