Mark your calendars! On Monday, January 27, 2025, award-winning author-illustrator Shanda McCloskey will be visiting Miller-Driscoll School to inspire young readers and artists. Known for her imaginative and heartwarming picture books and illustrations, McCloskey will present to students in grades K-2, sharing the creative process behind her stories and illustrations.
In her books, McCloskey explores themes of individuality and passion. She notes that her books, "explore what lights us up individually, whether that be robots, punk music, or something else! Then my characters follow that light in a messy, worthy journey." During her visit, McCloskey will bring these ideas to life, leading an interactive presentation filled with creativity, storytelling, and fun.
Students will have the chance to learn directly from McCloskey, whose journey as an artist began with studying art in Atlanta and New York City. Before becoming an author, she taught high school art and eventually decided to share her stories with young readers.
