Wilton United put on a variety show in the High School Little Theater. The show featured a number of singing, dancing and comedy numbers from a group that have been rehearsing since February.
Until last year Wilton United was all about sports, but Melissa Barrett, special education teacher at Wilton High School and Community Steps coordinator realized that sport wasn’t for everyone and she wanted to bring other peer mentoring opportunities under the umbrella of Wilton United and the variety show was born.
The show featuring 19 students between grades 6 and 12, both on stage and behind the scenes. Each of the performing students chose their own piece that they wanted to perform. ‘This is the first time I have ever conquered my stage fright’ said interpretive dancer Amelia. Other performers reported similar emotions ‘I was scared and excited at the same time’ said Ethan
The performers sang, danced and joked their way through the 45 minute set and will do it all again during ‘The Festival’ at Wilton High School next week.
