Students in Ms. O’Hara’s fashion class held a catwalk show today in the lobby for around 50 High School art students. The fashion students have been working hard over the semester to produce two garments showcasing what they have learned in class. Featuring 15 students ranging from freshman to seniors, the show featured two distinct styles of garments. The first inspired by a field trip to the Wilton Historical Society where the students learned about historic use of fabric, tailoring and applique techniques. The second was the creative use of non-traditional materials such as plastic utensils (as seen in the middle picture above), coffee filters and paper.
The class teaches a wide range of professional techniques such as illustration, pattern design, draping, sewing and garment construction methods. The student’s individuality and sense of style shone through their work and they were clearly very proud of all they had achieved.
Fashion is a class offered one semester per year. There is also a fashion club held on Wednesday’s after school, all students are welcome.
